Melissa Heieie is a gifted, energetic, versatile musician who has been the creative center of Silverside's music program for ten years. She is loved by choir members and congregants alike. She supports the church's progressive theological concerns, and the music for every Gathering is tailored accordingly.
Melissa is a graduate of Concordia College where she had double majors in Music and Art. She has played keyboard instruments not only for churches, but also for theater groups. She was a member of the Brandywine Celtic Harp Orchestra for several years and performed with them in Scotland in 2009 when they were the first American Celtic harp ensemble to perform at the Edinburgh International Harp Festival. She teaches private piano lessons using the Simply Music method; her studio is in the Silverside Church building.
Her primary work right now is related to directing the Silverside Choir and providing a diverse blend of music (and an exciting collection of guest instrumentalists!) for Silverside Gatherings. Front-burner projects include rebuilding our handbell choir. If you have questions about any aspect of our music program, including a wish to schedule her as your wedding musician, she will be happy to hear from you.
